We see your High Line Park and raise you a.. Low Line?
The site for this potential underground haven is an abandoned trolley station beneath Delancey Street (trolleys used to go over the Williamsburg Bridge!). Local architecture design firm RAAD Studio (as in Chrystie Street-based local) created this design utilizing solar collectors from above ground to diffuse sunlight below, which looks to allow for some rich plant life and happy people down there. RAAD is presenting their plan to Community Board 3’s Land Use Zoning committee tomorrow. That’s a great first step, but there’s a long road before this project comes to fruition. Either way, we’ll be glad to see it if/when it does come around.
